Malia Holland - KOREAN STUDENT ASSOCIATION

OVERVIEW

Throughout my time at Oregon State University, I have been able to involve myself in the many cultural clubs, one of those being the Korean Student Association. I joined this club as a general member in 2022 where I also joined as an intern that same year. Since joining as an intern, I then joined as a club officer where my official title is KSA's Marketing Manager. As the Marketing Manager, I mainly focus the club's design aspects which include flyers, advertisements, and social media posts.

When I first joined this club, I wanted to learn more about Korean culture as I come from a mixed background. Ever since becoming an officer, my goal for this club was to create a welcoming space for people to join. I remember first joining and feeling extremely isolated due to my mixed Korean background. Even with that feeling, I made it a goal to join the club as an intern to introduce a new perspective to the team and to make it a priority to create an environment for people of all backgrounds to join. In my past 3 years as the Marketing Manager, I feel as though KSA has made many changes, all in a positive direction to evolve KSA to be more than just a cultural club, but a club for people to go and just have a good time.

PROCESS

Whenever I create media for the Korean Student Association, I always start the design process by creating drafts and sketches of what I want the finished product to look like. I also make sure to include the required information in these posts, such as the KSA logo, disabilities notice, and general information such as the time and location of the event.

I primarily use Canva and Adobe Suite programs to create my designs. All designs are inspired by Korean cultural aspects and perspectives. Through KSA, I work in a collaborative team to help create and publish these designs. As the Marketing Manager, I make sure to organize all creative ideas and manage the KSA members for design related issues.

POSTER & SOCIAL MEDIA DESIGN

The work below includes all design-based work I have done for KSA. This includes designs and advertisements for general meetings, collaborative meetings, and large events such as K-Night. All designs below were advertised on KSA's official social media page, print-outs, and tv displays.
